Ruth Cope Mulvihill, a graduate of Northwestern University and a resident of Kent in 1970, wrote about the effects that the May 4, 1970, shootings at Kent State University had on her Delta Gamma sorority sisters on the Kent campus. Her article was published in the Delta Gamma national magazine. The collection includes a copy of her printed article and the edited typescript.

The 20th Commemoration of the Kent State shootings, held in 1990, remains one of the largest-attended of all the annual gatherings. Preparations had begun a few years in advance, culminating in the creation of the May 4 20th Anniversary Commission, at the behest of President Michael Schwartz, in 1989.
